HIV-infected people support program.

Caritas-Spes Ukraine conducts a big activity on HIV/AIDS problems. In 2005-2006 a number of educational seminars on work with HIV-infected and addicted people was conducted by Caritas-Spes for priests and monks. These seminars took place in 5 dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine. Lectures were conducted by Miroslav Stanishevskyy and Zhanna Stanishevska, directors of the fund “Logos”.
The project “The center of the social and psychological help for HIV-infected and addicted people” have being realized by Caritas-Spes in partnership with the fund “Logos” since 2006. Psychologists, social and medical workers work at this project. Clients can get necessary information on HIV/AIDS problem, qualified psychological help, and consultation of a family social worker and take part in therapeutic groups at the center. The center workers give palliative help to HIV-infected people at home, visit clients in hospitals.
The center clients have a chance to get anonymously individual consultations or to join it with group therapy. Patients with movement problems can get help at home.
Relatives of HIV-infected clients are special target group. Meeting groups work for them and also they can get other social services. Anonymity and confidentiality of every client is essential part of the Center workers’ work.
In May-July 2007, together with The All-Ukraine Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (the AUCCRU) and the Committee on social service matters under the AUCCRU with the support of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Ukraine, Caritas-Spes specialists took part in development of interfaith conception for universal access achievement to HIV-infection/AIDS prophylaxis, treatment, and support till 2010 in Ukraine.
